Dog Days Of Winter

We wiggle and jiggle as the First Bush decides he hasn’t done enough killing yet to insure his legacy as a great, wonderful, much-loved, kind, compassionate, wise, and generous president.

Our new democratic congress is getting antsy about this plan to send as many as forty-thousand more troops to Iraq. But as yet no one has come forth to say, “Mr. President, bring our troops home now!”

A large antiwar protest in Washington a few weeks ago has had no impact. Conspiracy theories as to what really happened on September 11, 2001 are beginning to filter down from the nut blogs into the mainstream. After all, if Putin in Russia can obliterate apartment buildings and blame it on the Chechens, what better way to shore up the then-mediocre presidency of the First Bush in 2001 than by wiping out a couple of symbols of corporate America?

No, of course I don’t believe that.

What I believe is that it was ten below zero last night with twenty and thirty mile per hour winds. What I believe is that such weather is normal for this time of year. What I believe is that my seventeen-year-old Honda is a true hero for starting without fail on these cold days (following a bit of remedial service last week).

What I don’t believe is Punxsutawney Phil who alleged the other day that spring will be early this year.
